Preface:
My trout logs of the Wolf River cover 26 years, 1998 where my first entry was a 14 1/2 inch brook trout caught in lower Gundy Rapids. I fished the Wolf with the old man for five years before I kept the log.
At first I only kept tract of date and fish caught. I've fished 939 days and caught 2,578 trout. In 2000 I began recording hours, and for the past 24 years I have logged 3,480.5 hours. In 2014 I began recording miles hiked, and for the past ten years I have logged 1,516 miles. These numbers are precise, not estimates, and exclusively on the Wolf River of eastern Langlade County.
I've always placed marks on my rods for measuring trout. Any brown trout under twelve inches was listed as "small" in my logs. In 2015 I began measuring all trout. In the past eight years my average brown trout is 14.1 inches, average brookie 10.4 inches and rainbow 11.7 inches.
I encourage everyone to keep track of your fishing.
